Scottish Forestry Public Register

We recognise that feedback around a proposal from local communities or affected stakeholders can improve an application.

What does the register show?

This register displays cases we have received which are open for comment and decisions we have made for:

  • Woodland Creation Proposals (WCP)
  • Forestry Grant Scheme (FGS) applications for woodland creation
  • Felling Permission Applications (FPA)

The register also publishes EIA screening opinions (EIA) once they have been made for relevant projects.

Scottish Forestry Public Register

Important - changes from 3rd November 2026

From 3rd November 2026 new public consultation and decisions made on woodland creation (WCP and FGS) have been published through this register.

Woodland creation includes:

  • planting
  • natural regeneration
  • direct seeding
  • agroforestry

Applications seeking support for woodland creation through Forestry Grant Scheme are open from comment on our public register for 28 days once we are satisfied that the proposal meets regulatory requirements and has satisfactorily addressed stakeholder feedback gathered during development of the proposal.

Any woodland creation and felling permission applications open for comment on the 3rd November 2026 can be accessed via the Register of woodland creation and felling permissions and you’ll be able to leave comments until the consultation period has ended.

Woodland Creation Proposals (WCP)

WCP cases on the register are woodland creation proposals which:

  • require EIA screening or
  • are 10 hectares or larger

The public register provides details of the proposal and a map. For these cases you are also able to access consultation documents via the register.

If a document you would like to see is not available please contact your local conservancy office.

When we have made a decision on the proposal a UKFS compliance letter will be published. If the proposal requires EIA screening, an EIA screening opinion will be published on the EIA screening public register which can be found from the WCP case details.

Woodland Creation (Forestry Grant Scheme)

FGS cases on the register are FGS woodland creation applications which:

  • do not require EIA screening
  • are less than 10 hectares

The public register provides details of these applications along with a map. Consultation documents are not available online for these cases. Please contact your local conservancy office if you wish to request documents.

Applications for new woodland which are below 2 hectares and do not require EIA screening are not usually available for comment on the public register.

Applications and decisions regarding amendments to FGS woodland creation contracts are also published on the register.

Felling Permission Applications (FPA)

From 3rd November 2026 public consultation and decisions made on felling permission applications (FPA) have been published through this register.

Felling permission applications assessed by Scottish Forestry as meeting the requirements of the UK Forestry Standard and our felling permission guidance are placed on this register.

Applications are open for comment for 28 days during which time the felling details and a map are available to view.

Applications for thinning are not normally subject to public consultation.

Once a decision is made by Scottish Forestry this will be displayed on the register.

Register of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA)

The EIA Public register for The Forestry (Environmental Impact Assessment) (Scotland) Regulations 2017 shows information about EIA screening opinions that we make during the EIA process and subsequent decisions.

All EIA screening opinions (EIA) provided by Scottish Forestry since 1st April 2019 are published on this register.

You can see details of the project and our decision in the published EIA Screening Opinion.

For projects where there is likely to be a significant effect on the environment, EIA consent is required.
