How we assess Forestry Grant Scheme applications

Understand how we score and assess your Forestry Grant Scheme (FGS) application.

Published: 23 Feb 2025

How to apply

You can submit applications for Forestry Grant Scheme funding throughout the year.

Scottish Forestry conservancy staff will assess applications on an ongoing approval basis.

The Forestry Grant Scheme is competitive and our aim is to select the applications that deliver the greatest benefits against our budget priorities.

Assessment and scoring

We assess projects to see if they are suitable for funding, using option-specific scoring criteria.

We will evaluate applications based on criteria like:

  • environmental benefits
  • sustainability
  • alignment with national forestry priorities

We will use your application to score each option, based on how well they meet the criteria.

  • each option in your application must meet the threshold score for approval

We will then use the score as a basis to allocate funding. We will carry out this on a competitive basis through the Forestry Grant Scheme clearing process.
