Accessibility

We've worked with a dedicated digital agency to ensure your website experience is optimised. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website.

What is an accessible website?

An accessible website allows users to navigate freely and view content without creating barriers. This means that information has to be easy to reach and available to as many visitors as possible. To ensure that these challenges are met, the website must assume that there's no standard user or browsing device.

Enforcement procedure

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is responsible for enforcing the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 (the 'accessibility regulations').

Our accessibility statement

This accessibility statement applies to the Scottish Forestry website at www.forestry.gov.scot.

We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website.

That means you should be able to:

  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand, working to readability levels in line with the Digital Scotland Service Standard.

Technical information about this website's accessibility

We're committed to making this website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

  • the homepage
  • other key landing pages
  • standard content pages
  • general site search results
  • news, blogs and stories
  • site function - like our contact form and page feedback function

Compliance status

All web pages within this website are compliant with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standards.

How accessible is this website?

While every effort has been taken to ensure the content of this website is as accessible as possible, we know some parts of this website aren't fully accessible.

For example:

  • for optimum performance, this website is best visited on a Microsoft Edge, Firefox or Chrome browser
  • documents aren't (currently) fully accessible to screen reader software, though we have a project to optimise our site documents
  • live video streams do not have captions
  • some of our videos and animations (currently) do not have subtitles

Content that is not within scope of accessibility regulations

PDFs and other documents

Accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018.

However, for those documents which are classed as 'active administration documents' and are essential to providing our services, we'll review these from September 2025.

We plan to fix our documents by replacing the document with an accessible HTML page or ensuring that, if the document is to remain as is, that it meets digital accessibility standards.

In the meantime, use our contact form and let us know if you experience any difficulties with a document on our website.

Live video

We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.
