Follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code

When visiting Scotland’s woodlands and forests it is important to act responsibly. Always follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code guidelines. Remember to close any gates you pass through to help prevent deer accessing the woodland and damaging the trees.

Keep it Clean!

You're the best defence our trees have against pests and disease.

When visiting a forest or woodland remember to 'Keep it Clean'.

Spores of harmful tree diseases can live for a very long time.

They are easily transported in mud and leaf litter. So, even if it’s been months since you were last out in the woods, it’s always best to check your kit is clean.

Following these simple biosecurity measures will help protect the forests we love:

  • clean your shoes - use a brush or a bottle of water to remove mud and debris
  • clean your tyres - wash your bike and buggy tyres before and after use, use bike washing stations where available
  • clean their paws - use a towel to remove as much mud as you can before visiting a woodland
  • clean your kit - remove soil from any equipment such as tent pegs

Keeping it Clean really is that simple.

Working together to adopt these habits has a positive impacts on our forests.

It also buys us time to research and develop other strategies to help keep our woods healthy.
