Register of woodland creation and felling permissions

You can leave a comment on any open woodland creation or felling application via our 'public register' for woodland creation and felling permission applications.

Published: 08 Jun 2025

Topic: Tools and resources

What does the register show?

We recognise that feedback around a proposal from local communities or affected stakeholders can improve a plan.

This register displays approved applications we have received for:

  • Forestry Grant Scheme (FGS) applications for woodland creation
  • FGS applications for agroforestry
  • amendment to FGS woodland creation contracts
  • amendment to FGS agroforestry
  • tree felling permission applications

Proposals for new woodland are displayed on the register if the area of the new woodland options within a proposal is greater than 2 hectares.

What you can do

When selecting the application you're interested in, you can:

  • see a map that shows the boundary of the application
  • view any case documents
  • make comments electronically directly to the conservancy (within 28 days from the date applications first appear)

How does the register work?

  1. we confirm that all proposals contained in the above applications are appropriate and have been agreed by stakeholders associated with each application
  2. we publish the details of these applications on this register for 4-weeks (28 days) only, from the date they first appear
  3. we ensure the applicants have addressed any issues identified as a result of the applications being open for comment through that period

We'll then display the details on this register to confirm we've approved their application

How can I leave feedback?

You can comment on an open application through the 4-week period, only:

  • open the Register
  • select 'Open for comment' under Case Status
  • choose the case type you are interested in, be it a felling permission application, or a Forestry Grant Scheme (FGS) application
  • select the case you are interested in. You'll then be able to view key dates, specific grid references and data around the case
  • select 'Comment on this application'

At this point, In order to register your comment, you must consent that you are agreeing to Scottish Forestry using your data to contact you about case related matters.

You'll then be able to submit your contact details and any comments you have.

Note

Scottish Forestry only gathers personal data for the purpose of contacting you regarding the case you have commented upon. All information provided will be handled in accordance with our Privacy Notice.

What will you do with my feedback?

As part of the approval process we consider all comments received in consultation with the applicant. These are then passed on to the applicant/agent for action if appropriate.

During this period, you will then be able to:

  • make further comments by email / or in writing directly to your local conservancy
  • view a map that shows the boundary of the application
  • view other specific case documents or information, for example
    • consultees involved in the application, and their responses
    • documentation associated with the application, like survey results

Following submission of comments, the proposal may be amended or rejected, if necessary.

Note: charges may apply

We may charge a fee for copies of documentation, if they're large or needed regularly.
