Scoping Opinion

Last updated :28 Oct 2024

Topic: Felling trees

Sub topic: Felling regulations

Scoping opinion document for the policy on the Control of Woodland Removal.

Summary

Woodland removal should be kept to a minimum and where woodland is felled it should be replanted. The policy supports woodland removal only where it would achieve significant and clearly defined additional public benefits. In some cases, including those associated with development, a proposal for compensatory planting may form part of this balance. The criteria for determining the acceptability of woodland removal is explained in the policy and the applicant should take them into account when preparing the proposal.
